Why Taunton calls Silver Hammer Dumpster Rental

A local hauler, not a call center with a truck somewhere

One local operator, one roll-off fleet, and a straightforward idea: quote a real price, turn up when you said you would, and treat somebody's property like it is your own. When you dial (774) 504-5393 you reach our yard on 37 Cushman St — not a national dispatch queue that has never tried to back a loaded truck down a narrow street in the old mill district or a tight triple-decker driveway.

That local knowledge is most of the job here. Knowing which downtown and mill-district streets a loaded truck can actually turn on. Knowing that plaster and lath out of a Silver City-era building weighs far more than modern drywall, and will fill a tonnage allowance while the box still looks half empty. Knowing that a nor'easter can drop a season's worth of yard waste and roof debris on Bristol County in a single weekend. And knowing what MassDEP's waste ban list actually requires well enough to tell you what has to come out of the load before it gets to the scale rather than after.

  • Flat-rate quotes with the tonnage allowance stated up front
  • Same-day and next-day delivery across Bristol County and Plymouth County
  • Driveway boards on every placement, never an add-on
  • Straight guidance on MassDEP's waste ban list, including mattresses and textiles
  • Licensed and insured in Massachusetts, locally owned

Why choose us

Six reasons contractors keep our number saved

  • Local, not a call center

You reach our yard on 37 Cushman St, not a national dispatch queue. The person who answers knows which streets a loaded truck can actually turn on and which older drives will not take one at all.

  • One flat price, written down

Delivery, rental period, pickup, fuel, disposal and a stated tonnage allowance in a single number. If something would push you over, we tell you before the truck leaves.

  • Same-day when you need it

Call before noon and most Taunton orders go out the same day. Swap-outs on live jobsites get priority over everything else.

  • Third-generation local

The Medeiros family has run trucks and container work in the Taunton area for three generations. We know which mill-district streets and which Bristol County back roads a loaded roll-off can actually turn on.

  • The right box, not the biggest

Weight fills a container long before volume does. We will talk you into a smaller can if that is the honest answer.

  • Loads sorted properly

Mattresses, textiles, scrap tires and lead-acid batteries all have their own routes under Massachusetts' waste ban rules. We tell you what has to come out before it reaches the scale, not after.

Loaded roll-off container in Taunton, MA

Know before you load

MassDEP sets more of the load than you'd think

Massachusetts runs a statewide waste ban. MassDEP keeps a running list of items that cannot go to a landfill or incinerator, whatever hauler you use — asphalt pavement, brick and concrete; metal and white goods; wood; clean gypsum wallboard; whole tires; lead-acid batteries; CFC-containing appliances; cathode ray tubes; yard waste such as leaves and grass clippings; and recyclable paper, glass, metal and plastic containers.

The newest addition catches people off guard. Since November 2022, mattresses, box springs and textiles have been on that same banned list — a relatively recent change most competitors still don't mention. If a cleanout involves an old mattress or a closet full of clothes and linens nobody wants, ask us where those need to go before they end up in the container.

Heavy is not the same as banned. Concrete, brick, block and dirt are perfectly acceptable — they just need their own dedicated low-fill heavy debris container, because they run out of weight long before they run out of room. Mixed into a general load they will cost you an overage and can make the whole load harder to place.

We will walk you through exactly what has to come out before you load anything. Start with the mattress & textile ban guide, or read the full MassDEP waste ban list explained.

How it works

From your phone call to an empty driveway

No forms, no portal logins, no waiting on a quote email. Five steps, and the first is a conversation with somebody who has actually loaded a container.

Roll-off container being set on a Taunton, MA property

Two minutes on the phone is the whole booking

Tell us the address, roughly what is going in, where you want it and when. That is the entire process on your side. We handle sizing, scheduling, protection, hauling and disposal.

If you are not sure what size you need, do not guess — describe the pile. Sizing containers is what we do all day, and we would rather talk you into the cheaper box than sell you space you will never fill.

Call (774) 504-5393
  1. 1

Call and tell us the job

One short conversation. We ask what you are clearing, where the box needs to sit and when you need it. No forms, no waiting on an email.

  2. 2

We size it and quote it flat

You get one number covering delivery, the rental period, pickup, disposal and a stated tonnage allowance. If a smaller box does the job we will say so.

  3. 3

Delivered on boards, where you want it

The driver walks the spot with you, lays protection under the rails and sets the container square on the driveway, curb or job site.

  4. 4

    Load at your own pace

Keep it level with the top rail and keep the banned items out. Need a swap mid-job or an early pickup? One call and we are on it.

  5. 5

We haul it and sort it right

Clean concrete, metal and green waste get routed for recovery rather than buried. You get your driveway back the way you left it.

The thing nobody tells you

Bigger is not always the safe choice

Most people ordering their first dumpster assume the biggest container is the least risky option. With light, bulky material — furniture, boxes, insulation, cabinetry — that is true. With anything dense it is the opposite.

A 30 or 40 yard box loaded with roofing shingles, or with plaster and lath out of an old Silver City-era mill building or triple-decker, will blow past its tonnage allowance while it still looks half empty, and you pay the overage by the ton. A 20 yard with a matched allowance often costs less for exactly the same job. Concrete, brick and asphalt go further still — so they need a dedicated low-fill heavy debris container rather than a corner of a mixed load.

Ask us and you will get the honest answer, even when the honest answer is the smaller box. The size guide walks through the math, and the cost breakdown covers what actually moves the price.

Taunton specifics

The Silver City's own history and geography shape the job

Taunton earned the nickname "the Silver City" from the silverware manufacturers once headquartered here — Reed & Barton, Poole Silver Co. and F.B. Rogers among them — and a lot of that era's mill buildings have since been converted into lofts and housing. Renovating one usually means pre-1978 lead paint to plan around and older plumbing and insulation that weighs more than a modern job would. Read the mill-loft renovation guide before you start tearing into an older building.

Taunton also sits at the Route 24/I-495 interchange, a real crossroads location in Southeastern Massachusetts, and the retail, warehousing and housing growth building up around that corridor keeps a steady stream of construction and demolition debris moving through the area. The Route 24/I-495 corridor guide covers what that growth means for jobsite haulers.

And New England weather plays its own part. A hard nor'easter can leave a driveway buried under wet, heavy snow, put an ice dam into a roofline, or drop limbs across a yard in a single night — and Taunton has a long, respectful memory of regional flood risk along the Taunton River and its low-lying areas after heavy rain. We plan container availability around storm season the same way we plan around construction season. See the storm cleanup guide, and the permit guide if the container needs to sit on the street.

What locals say

Straight talk from customers around Greater Taunton

Called at nine, had a 20 yard on the drive by two. Boards down, doors facing the garage, and the driveway looked exactly the same when they picked it up a week later.

Karen T.Taunton — Garage Cleanout

We build all over Bristol County and Silver Hammer is the only hauler that has never left us sitting on a full box. When they say Tuesday, it is Tuesday.

Dan R.Raynham — Residential Builder

Cleared out my mother's house in three weeks and they were patient the whole way through. One call and a 20 yard showed up the next morning — took the stress out of an already stressful job.

Marisa K.Taunton — Estate Cleanout

A nor'easter dropped a big limb across our fence line and they had a 20 yard on site before the tree crew even finished cutting. Made the whole cleanup a lot less painful.

FAQs

Dumpster rental questions, answered

The questions we field most often from Taunton homeowners and contractors. More on the full FAQ page.

How much does it cost to rent a dumpster in Taunton?

Price depends on the size, how dense the debris is, how long you keep it and where the job sits relative to our yard on Cushman St. What matters more is how the price is built. Ours is a flat rate covering delivery, the rental period, pickup, fuel, disposal and a stated tonnage allowance, so the number you are quoted is the number you pay unless you go over the weight. Call with a short description of the job and you will get a firm figure.

How quickly can you deliver a dumpster in Taunton?

Most orders placed before noon go out the same day across Taunton and into the closer parts of Bristol and Plymouth County. Afternoon bookings usually land first thing the next morning. Jobsite swap-outs get priority because a full container stops a crew working, and storm cleanup after a nor'easter gets the same urgency — downed limbs and roof debris do not wait for a convenient week. The exceptions are honest ones — heavy rain that has made a street or yard too soft to work, a street placement that still needs a town permit, or a driveway we need to look at before we commit a loaded truck to it.

Do I need a permit for a dumpster in Taunton?

Private property — your driveway or yard — generally does not need a permit. Placing a container on a public street or right-of-way is a different matter, and most Bristol and Plymouth County towns, Taunton included, require a temporary street-occupancy permit from the town's Department of Public Works before a roll-off can sit there. Rules vary a little from town to town, so tell us where the box is going and we will tell you which situation applies before the truck ever leaves the yard.

What can't go in the dumpster in Massachusetts?

Liquids, paint, solvents, fuel, oil, propane tanks, asbestos and medical waste are all out, and Massachusetts bans a specific list of items from disposal statewide through MassDEP — asphalt pavement, brick and concrete; metal and white goods; wood; clean gypsum wallboard; whole tires; lead-acid batteries; CFC-containing appliances; cathode ray tubes; yard waste such as leaves and grass clippings; and recyclable paper, glass, metal and plastic containers. As of November 2022 that list also covers mattresses, box springs and textiles — a newer rule a lot of homeowners have not caught up with yet, and one of the first things we flag on a call. If you are unsure about an item, ask before you load it.

Why does a small container cost less to fill than a big one?

Because weight runs out before space does, and disposal is charged by the ton. A 30 yard box loaded with shingles, or with plaster and lath out of an old Silver City mill loft or triple-decker, will pass its tonnage allowance while it still looks half empty, and you pay the overage per ton. A 20 with a matched allowance often costs less for exactly the same job. Ask us and we will tell you exactly what applies to your load before you book.

Will the dumpster damage my driveway?

It should not, and we take real steps to prevent it. Boards go under the rails and roller contact points on every driveway placement at no extra charge. Damage almost always happens during the roll-off and pick-up rather than while the container sits. A driveway that is already cracked, heaved or spalling carries more risk whatever anyone does, especially after a hard New England winter — flag it and we will pick a better spot or protect it further.

I'm renovating an older mill loft or triple-decker in Taunton — does that change anything?

It can, and it is worth mentioning when you call. A lot of Taunton's converted mill buildings and its triple-deckers were built well before 1978, which means paint disturbed during demo work should be treated as lead-containing until it is tested, and old plumbing, insulation and plaster-and-lath walls tend to weigh far more than a modern renovation would. That changes both the container size we recommend and, if the street is tight and the box has to sit off the driveway, whether a town permit applies. Tell us the building and the scope of work and we will size it and place it accordingly.
