How it started
One truck, and a phone somebody answered
Silver Hammer Dumpster Rental was put on the road in 2013 by Tony Medeiros, whose family has worked trucks and hauling around Taunton for three generations. He was tired of watching haulers around Greater Taunton stay hard to reach, vague about timing, and quick to add a charge nobody had mentioned on the phone.
So the pitch was the opposite: one number that covers the job, a delivery time we actually hit, and someone answering the phone who has genuinely loaded a container. The idea has not changed since — make waste removal easier, cleaner and more straightforward for the homeowners and businesses of Taunton and the surrounding towns — and in a city this size, word moves fast. One remodeler tells another, a roofer mentions it to a supplier, a family clearing a parent's house tells the next family down the street, and the yard on 37 Cushman St keeps getting busier.
The company is bigger now. The rules have not moved.

Careful with older buildings
A lot of Taunton's housing stock predates 1978 — mill-building loft conversions and triple-deckers included. We plan the debris stream around that reality instead of treating every renovation the same.

Taunton is the seat of Bristol County and carries the old nickname "The Silver City" — Reed & Barton, Poole Silver Co. and F.B. Rogers Silver Co. all ran silverware factories here through the 19th and 20th centuries. A lot of those old mill buildings are now lofts and apartments, and pre-1978 lead paint and original plumbing or insulation are normal realities of working on them, not surprises.
Downtown centers on Taunton Green, one of the largest town greens in New England, and the older streets around it and the historic mill district tend to run tighter than newer subdivisions out toward Raynham and Easton. We also sit right at the Route 24 and I-495 interchange, a real crossroads for Southeastern Massachusetts, which is a steady source of the construction and warehousing debris we haul as that corridor keeps building out.
And the calendar leans on the work here, too. Winter nor'easters bring heavy wet snow load, ice-dam roof damage and downed limbs that turn into a lot of yard-waste and storm-debris calls. The Taunton River, part of the federal Wild & Scenic River system, can still push into low-lying areas during a hard rain — the city remembers the 2005 Whittenton Pond Dam scare well, when heavy rain put the dam at risk of failing and prompted a large downtown evacuation before it was later removed. Nobody here treats that lightly, and we keep an eye on the forecast the same way.

What a normal week looks like
Monday might open with a 15 yard on a short drive in Raynham for a garage cleanout, then a swap on a framing job out toward Norton where the crew filled a 30 faster than anyone planned. Tuesday could be a tear-off in Easton where the box has to sit tight to the eave because the lot slopes away from the house.
Midweek there is usually an estate clearance or a whole-home cleanout — an older triple-decker near downtown or a mill-loft conversion, where the job gets scheduled around what is actually being disturbed rather than a generic timeline. Fridays lean commercial: restaurant and retail fit-outs near the Route 24/I-495 corridor, light industrial tenants, property managers turning units.
Then the weather leans on all of it, a little. Winter nor'easters bring heavy wet snow, ice-dam roof damage and a lot of downed-limb yard waste once the storm passes, and a hard rain can still push the Taunton River into low-lying spots the way it always has here. When one is tracking our way we stage extra containers and keep the phone answered until the cleanup is done.

Yes — licensed to haul in Massachusetts and carrying general liability and commercial auto cover. If you are a contractor or property manager and need a certificate of insurance on file before we come on site, ask when you call and we will usually have it issued the same day.

Does renovating an older Taunton building change the debris plan?
Often, yes. A lot of our calls come from mill-building loft conversions and older triple-deckers around the Silver City's historic districts, and anything built before 1978 has to be treated as a possible lead-paint job until tested otherwise. That does not stop the work — it just means talking through what is being disturbed before the container shows up, so debris gets separated correctly instead of sorted out later.
My driveway is steep and narrow. Can you still deliver?
Usually. A loaded roll-off truck wants roughly 60 feet of straight approach and clear overhead room, and plenty of older Taunton-area lots do not have it. The answer is normally a smaller container placed differently rather than no container at all. Describe the drive when you call — a two-minute conversation beforehand is worth far more than a failed delivery on the day.
Do you work with contractors on ongoing accounts?
