Yard Waste Dumpster Rental Taunton MA across Taunton and Bristol County

Massachusetts bans leaves, grass clippings, brush and other yard waste from regular trash disposal statewide — it is one of MassDEP's longest-standing waste bans, and it means a yard waste container runs on a different track than a general debris one. The load stays green material only, and it gets composted rather than landfilled.

That is not the only Massachusetts disposal rule worth knowing before you fill any container in this state. Since November 2022, MassDEP has also banned mattresses, box springs and textiles (clothing, shoes, linens and similar fabric items) from regular trash disposal — a newer rule many homeowners have not caught up with yet. Neither category belongs in a yard waste container, but if a yard cleanup or a garage sort turns up an old mattress or a bag of worn-out clothes, flag it when you call and we can point you to the right recycling or donation option instead.

Who this service is for

Landscapers clearing a property, homeowners tackling an overgrown yard or a major pruning project, tree services managing a takedown, and anyone dealing with storm damage that dropped limbs or an entire tree across the yard. Nor'easter cleanup after a windy winter storm is one of our steadiest recurring call patterns in this part of Massachusetts, alongside the usual fall leaf-clearing rush.

New-construction lots being cleared before building starts also generate significant green debris volume, particularly around the growth corridors near Route 24 and I-495.

Massachusetts disposal bans — yard waste, and mattresses & textiles

Under MassDEP's statewide waste bans, leaves, grass clippings and other yard trash cannot go into regular trash disposal — they have to be composted or otherwise diverted. That is why a yard waste container needs to stay green material only: branches, brush, leaves, grass clippings and similar debris, without construction material, household trash or dirt mixed in. A mixed load can disqualify the whole container from composting, which defeats the purpose of ordering this service in the first place. Flat pricing covers delivery, the rental period, pickup and processing, same as any other container service — the only difference is where the load ends up afterward.

A separate, more recent rule catches people off guard: as of November 1, 2022, Massachusetts added mattresses, box springs and textiles (clothing, shoes, linens and similar fabric items) to its list of banned disposal items. That means an old mattress pulled during a yard or garage cleanout, or a load of worn clothing and linens, cannot go into a standard dumpster or curbside trash — they need to go through a mattress recycler or a textile donation and recycling bin instead. It is unrelated to the yard-waste ban itself, but the two come up together often enough on a big property cleanout that it is worth knowing before you start loading a container — flag anything like that when you call and we can point you to the right option.

What loads into a yard waste container

Tree limbs and brush, leaves, grass clippings and needle litter, shrub and hedge trimmings, and storm-downed branches all load in cleanly. Whole tree trunks and very large limbs may need to be cut to length first depending on the container and access — worth asking about when you call for a large takedown.

  • Tree limbs, brush and storm debris
  • Leaves, grass clippings and hedge trimmings
  • Needle litter and general yard cleanup material
  • Stumps and root balls (call ahead — size and access dependent)

Which size suits the job

A moderate pruning or clean-up job usually fits a 10 yard — yard waste is bulky but light, so volume matters more than weight here. A larger property clearing, storm cleanup or tree takedown often needs a 15 yard or 20 yard. Lot-clearing ahead of new construction can run larger still — call and describe the scope and we will size it.

Yard Waste Dumpster Rental — your questions

Why can't yard waste go in with regular trash in Massachusetts?

MassDEP's statewide waste ban rules prohibit leaves, grass clippings, brush and other yard trash from regular disposal — it has to be composted instead. That is why yard waste service runs as a separate, clean-load container rather than a standard dumpster.

Can I mix a little construction debris in with yard waste?

No — keep the load green material only. Mixed loads can disqualify the whole container from composting, which defeats the purpose of ordering yard waste service in the first place.

What is the Massachusetts mattress and textile ban, and does it affect yard waste service?

As of November 1, 2022, Massachusetts bans mattresses, box springs and textiles from regular trash disposal statewide. It is a separate rule from the yard-waste ban and neither belongs in the other's container — but both often come up in the same property cleanout, so flag any mattresses or bagged textiles when you call and we will point you to the right option.

How much brush and storm debris can one container hold?

Yard debris is bulky, so a 10 or 15 yard container often fills on volume well before it fills on weight. If you are clearing a heavily wooded lot or dealing with a big storm mess, size up rather than under to avoid needing a second container.

Do whole tree trunks or large limbs need to be cut down first?

Often yes, depending on length and the container's access — call ahead when you are dealing with a large takedown and we will tell you what size pieces work for the container you need.

What happens to the yard waste after pickup?

It goes to composting rather than regular disposal, consistent with Massachusetts' statewide ban on landfilling or trashing yard waste.
